Sometimes we pause and meditate in our busy lives. We might be prayerful or we might just sit quietly and contemplate everything around us, the beauty of the earth, sky, and creatures great and small living among us. Diversity is everywhere we look and humankind has much to be thankful for when we try and see things as God intended. In the short essay penned by JW, “Ripples” neatly encapsulates this view.

The ever-growing and outreaching ripples are what drives us at Memory Matters. Our vision is one of Brain Wellness for our entire Lowcountry community, and perhaps beyond. Across Hilton Head Island and west of the bridges, we are bringing our compassionate memory care services and brain health education. We are working in collaboration with St. Gregory the Great Church in Bluffton and shortly with All Saints Church on the Island. We are bringing our vision to them and the people they serve. We are in the process of reaching out to other churches and organizations, too.

The ripple effect is at work!

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all…………..Cecil Alexander 1848

Ripples

The old woman quivered as she spoke, “You really got through to them today! We have a lot of very interesting speakers and talented musicians who come here. They all mean well, but most of the time what they say and what they play just bounces right off. They remain on the outside.  You can see it in the resident’s eyes; it’s like when they stare at the TV, nothing sinks in.”

She reached out with her frail, wrinkled hand and gently touched my face before continuing, “But you, my dear boy! Well, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. It is obviously why He put you here! Promise me you will keep on doing what you do. It makes all the difference in the world to them.”

“Yes ma’am, you have my word. I promise. There is nothing else I’d rather be doing. Your very kind words will stay with me. Thank you.”

Later that day I was sitting by the pool. The sky was mostly blue and the sun was shining. I was the only one there. The surface of the water was completely still, like a sheet of glass. Then a single cloud rolled in. The sun was still shining as few raindrops began to fall. Each drop landed on the still water and circled outward from the center. The expanding rings of ripples began to move into each other,  like fireworks bursting in the finale, a magical sun shower dance of infinite connections.
