Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Judy

We have various areas of need.  Please look at the following positions and let us know which one interests you.

  • Community Outreach: Public speakers who help Memory Matters raise awareness, provide education, and expand the reach of educational offerings in the community. These volunteers deliver presentations using prepared training materials on topics related to Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and brain health.

  • Community Volunteer Leaders: Help recruit program volunteers, network through churches, build relationships, plan & promote local events, and evaluate community needs. Oftentimes, these volunteers will represent Memory Matters at local health fairs and events.

  • Event Committee: We are currently seeking volunteers wanting to be on our 5K walk/run event to be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, on the beach near Coligny. Volunteers will be available the day of the race to man various resource, activities, and children's tables, those who can make pancakes the morning of, help prior to the event and collect gift cards from various businesses to be used as Brain Trivia prizes.

  • Farmer's Market Resource Table: Speak with people who visit the Memory Matters tent at the Bluffton Farmer's Market on Thursday afternoons from noon - 5 p.m. A Memory Matters staff member will set up and break down the tent and resource table at the start and end of the day. You will provide information about what Memory Matters is and Whom we help and serve. Brochures and flyers will be available on the resource table to hand to the public. Volunteers who want to work here do not have to work the entire shift. You can work as long or as short of an amount of time.

  • Front Desk Assistant: Assist staff with data entry, answering phones, and greeting guests at Memory Matters on HHI.

  • Kitchen Assistant: Plate morning snacks and lunch for participants in our Memory Care Day Program. Clean kitchen after lunch.

  • Memory Care Day Program Assistant: Assist staff before and during the Memory Care Day Program with the arrival of participants, during activities, lunch, and dismissal. Our Hilton Head Program is from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. Our Bluffton Program is from 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at St. Gregory the Great.

  • Support Group Facilitator: Create a safe, open environment where people share their feelings, thoughts, and experiences in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia.
